What it is
The Performer Console is a MIDI controller made for Pangolin's BEYOND laser software. It is laid out the way BEYOND already works, so the important functions sit under my fingers instead of behind a mouse.
- Four control layers, so one surface covers far more than its size suggests.
- Direct access to BEYOND plugins: colour picker, custom workspace, perfect delays, and zone flips and selections.
- Ready to go: Pangolin supplies a setup file, a zone file and a MIDI map, and a free MIDI Mapping course to customise the layout with scripting.
- Built for the road: it comes with a carrying case and a USB-C cable.
Why I chose it
Lasers are at their best when they are played, not just triggered. A mouse is fine for building content, but on show night I want to react to the music and the room: bring a beam in slowly, hold a symmetrical look, then hit hard on the drop.
With a dedicated surface I can:
- Busk live with the same feel as my lighting desk.
- Control zones and colours instantly, without hunting through menus.
- Keep the look tight and deliberate: slow, controlled movement, strong hits, clean symmetrical shapes in a dark room.
